Cancel your plans for Saturday afternoon, June 18, 3-6pm, this is better — my first solo show in years, at the beautiful Crossing Art Gallery:
Joshua Spodek: Motion in Stillness
If you haven’t seen my work, now is your chance to see some mind-blowing and amazing art. Like no other medium, there is no substitute for the wonder of seeing it in person.
Critics hail it as both retro, recalling Eadweard Muybridge and Étienne-Jules Marey, and radically new, pushing limits on laser-cut machining and digital image processing; showing both its commercial and subway-based roots as well as my science and nature background in astrophysics, optics, and technology. Obviously I don’t communicate like a traditional artist.
If you’ve seen it, now is your chance to see many new pieces, finished and curated.
Plus you’ll see a room of people swaying side to side to observe it and tell people you saw it before it was in the Guggenheim, MoMA, and the Musee d’Orsay.
You’ll see plenty of new works, some new takes on some of my favorites never seen outside my studio, and some new zoetrope techniques for the geeky among us (you know who you are).
I owe a huge debt of thanks to Catherine and Jennifer at Crossing Art for their faith in our putting this show together in time. I’m sharing this only now because I had to work feverishly to complete the works and only now is the end in sight. If you haven’t heard from me lately, it’s because I sequestered myself in my studio, to work like a dog on the show (and last week’s seminar).
